Sandstone Paving

Short-term care:

  • Allow the mortar to fully set (typically 24–48 hours) before walking on it.

  • Avoid heavy loads for the first few days.

  • Brush away debris regularly to prevent staining.

  • Clean with mild soapy water; avoid harsh chemicals that can erode the stone.

Long-term care:

  • Seal the stone every 1–2 years to prevent staining and weather damage.

  • Regularly sweep and wash with warm water to prevent algae buildup.

  • Avoid pressure washing at close range, as it can damage the stone and joints.

Porcelain Paving

Short-term care:

  • Keep the surface clean from dirt and cement residues after installation.

  • Avoid heavy furniture placement until the grout has set completely.

Long-term care:

  • Sweep and mop regularly with warm soapy water or a pH-neutral cleaner.

  • Porcelain is low-maintenance, but occasional deep cleaning prevents buildup.

  • Unlike natural stone, sealing is not required, but keeping grout lines clean is important.

Fencing

Short-term care:

  • Allow the wood to dry and acclimate before treating it (if not pre-treated).

  • Avoid impact or pressure on posts while the concrete base is curing (up to 48 hours).

Long-term care:

  • Apply a wood preservative or stain annually to prevent rot and UV damage.

  • Check for loose panels or fixings after storms or high winds.

  • Keep vegetation away from the base to reduce moisture buildup.

Decking

Short-term care:

  • Allow decking to settle for a few days before heavy use.

  • If pressure-treated, wait a few months before applying stains or treatments.

Long-term care:

  • Clean regularly with a stiff brush and warm soapy water to prevent moss and algae.

  • Apply a decking oil or stain annually to maintain colour and water resistance.

  • Check for loose boards, screws, or nails periodically.

Grass & Lawn

Short-term care:

  • Water thoroughly for the first 2–3 weeks to help roots establish.

  • Avoid walking on it until it has fully rooted (usually 2–4 weeks).

  • Mow only once the grass reaches around 3 inches, using a high setting initially.

Long-term care:

  • Mow regularly, adjusting height seasonally (higher in hot, dry months).

  • Fertilise 3–4 times a year for a healthy lawn.

  • Aerate the lawn annually to prevent compaction and promote root growth.

Grass Seed

Short-term care:

  • Water daily until germination (usually 7–14 days, weather dependent).

  • Keep the area free from foot traffic while seeds establish.

Long-term care:

  • Once grown, mow lightly when the grass reaches around 3 inches.

  • Overseed patchy areas each spring and autumn for a thick lawn.

  • Water deeply in dry periods to encourage deep root growth.

MULCH, MULCH, MULCH

Its all about Mulching,
Mulching your garden in the UK is a fantastic way to enhance soil health, conserve moisture, and suppress weeds. By applying a layer of organic material, such as bark, straw, or compost, you not only enrich the soil as it breaks down but also help maintain a more stable temperature for your plants. With the UK’s often unpredictable weather, mulch acts as a shield against heavy rainfall and retains moisture during dry spells. Plus, it adds an attractive finish to your garden beds! Ideal for both flower and vegetable gardens, mulching is a simple yet effective practice that can lead to thriving plants and a more beautiful outdoor space.
